Stolen Moments In Time

I raised you up

I taught you to play

First in the dirt

Then in the clay

you were so little and very sweet

you always had kisses for my cheeks

you ran so fast to and from school

grew out of your pants, then your shoes

God gave me a son

Stolen Moments in Time

God gave me you

Only for a short time

You weren't any trouble

First running the street

Then on the race track

So fast on your feet

You went to college

Formed a small band

Played your heart out

Then you played for the sand

God gave me a son

Stolen Moments in Time

God gave me you

only for a short time

Someday I'll see you

Someday, Somehow

This sorrow is mine

All mine for now

You left this life

Did as They told

Now Mamma's cheeks

 grow so cold

No more kisses from my little boy

the gun they gave, a weapon, not a toy

you are gone, gone from this world

for my little boy, my life is unfurled

I fill my days with memories of you

my little boy that ran fast to school.

I listen and listen to your songs

 melodies and chords never wrong

They gave you a gun

I taught you to play

now with that gun

you've gone away

God gave me a son

I taught him to play

First in the dirt,

Now gone away

I'll see him again

Someday, Somehow

My lonesome cheeks

They grow so cold now

No kisses from him

My sweet little boy

He joined, obeyed, then deployed

Stolen Moments with him

Are my bittersweet

God gave me a son

For these memories I weep.
